Burton v Lichfield (Round2)
This was the second time that Burton had played Lichfield U7 at home this season, and Lichfield bought enough players to field 3 separate teams.
On a bright and sunny Sunday morning, which was ideal for playing rugby, Burton played three matches with Lichfield rotating complete teams at the end of each match and Burton playing with rolling substitutions.
Both teams were cheered on by a large group of supporters and the matches were played in a good spirit
Match 1
This was a close fought affair with what turned out to be Lichfields strongest team.
Both teams were committed to attacking running and competitive tagging and the score was 4-2 at half time but the referee quite rightly had disallowed 2 Lichfield tries for players not being on their feet when scoring. The second half was a continuation of the first with excellent play from both sides and Burton eventually ran out winners, well done.
Scorers Alex Garrett 4, Mitchell Walkman, Bruce Drinkwater, Evie Leavelsley-Richards
Score 7-5 win for Burton.
Match 2
Burton were well up for this next match and quickly got into their stride, they had listened to the advice given by the coaches and closed Lichfield down quickly forcing them to make errors.
Burton also showed some good passing play with players looking for offloads before being tagged.
This was an really good match with Burton supporting each other in attack and defence.
Scorers Anthony Bryan 3, Bruce Drinkwater 2, Ben Smith 2, Alex Garrett
Score 8-5 win for Burton
Match 3
Burton played the final match of the day in the same way as the others, with good support play and resolute defence. Burton passed the ball around well and this showed with 6 different players getting on the scoresheet.
Burton won this match to continue their undefeated run
Scorers Anthony Bryan, Ben Smith, Bruce Drinkwater, Archie Fotheringham, Daniel Smith, Ethan Pepperell
