A Positive Day for the U7's

Less than 24 hours after decorating the Christmas Tree, or what’s left of it (upper floor, Octagon Centre for those yet to see this wondrous yuletide creation), a weary Burton took to the wet fields of Newcastle Under Lyme and soon found out why the area is fondly termed The Potteries – mud, or clay to be precise. Naturally at this discovery Burton’s more artistic players took no time at all to begin using the natural resources to create their own projectiles and the ensuing mud fight clearly unsettled the home side.

In a testament to both clubs, both sides were able to field a small army of players and, in the best traditions of Under 7’s rugby, the match was a clear draw with fantastic attacking rugby from both teams, producing a wealth of try’s.

The game itself started with Newcastle robustly attempting to dominate Burton, however they hadn’t counted on the ‘human shields’ that are Alfie and Harry, blocking up the middle of the park providing a platform for the team to play some of their best rugby of the season.
Great attacking play by Coaches Player of The Day, Alexander, Will and Lewis stretched the home side to the limit. This allowed James, and Joseph to exploit the holes in the opposition ranks to great effect. In defence too Burton were superb, with Parents Player of the Day, Peter, ably assisted by Finley plucking opposition tags like they would sweeties from a drunken Santa.

Overall this was a hugely positive day for the squad, particularly because of the great discipline shown and also the Newcastle Under Lyme Sunday players dinner, which consisted of pie, mash veg and excellent gravy. Looking at the players plates after, this is a most excellent fixture!
