Owing to excellent numbers from both sides, it was decided to split the teams up and play 2 matches at the same time, in order that every player would get maximum game time. So it was that the panic began to set in amongst the coaching staff as the teams took to the pitches, even the normal epitome of rugby calmness – Steve Smith had his fingers covering his eyes in trepidation. Fortunately the players, boasting a fine array of party food supplied by George Fargher, had no such worries or concerns, and proceeded to put on a display that made everyone involved proud.
It would be fair to say that the score was fairly academic, though the general agreement from both sides was that this was a drawn affair, however if Lewis and Peter’s account of events is to be believed, then Burton must have won as they allegedly scored 22 try’s each!
The real plus side of the days proceedings was the way the players were able to translate the hard work from weeks of training into a match situation and demonstrate a great level of structure and ability. Most pleasing of all was the teamwork and the way all the players pulled together, which will be vital as the team progresses through the age groups.
This was a great morning of rugby of which all involved should be extremely proud! Particular thanks should go to Nottingham Casuals for their great hospitality and pasta meat balls!
Next game is next Sunday versus Lichfield details will follow in the week.
