Burton U8's v Stoke
A winning start
On a crisp and fresh October Sunday morning Burton played host to their first visitors of the season against the side from Stoke.
Stoke bought a team of 9 players against a team of 17 for Burton. Burton had been swelled by some new arrivals during preseason training and this was a good start for these newcomers who have been welcomed into the team by players and supporters from last season.
With the number of players that Burton could field, the team was split into 2 with players playing a full match and then a complete change of team for the second match. The third match was played with a mixture of the team with rolling substitutions.
There was an excellent turnout from the Burton players parents, although some had to miss parts of the game due to kitchen duty back at the clubhouse (thankfully there were no reports of anyone going down with food poisoning)!!
As the match went on the weather played its part and the day ended in bright sunshine. Burton won all 3 matches and continued the form shown last year.
The new players settled in well and the returning players showed they had remembered what to do, although with the new format of 6-a-side and a large pitch all players realised that they would have to do ALOT of running.
What really impressed the coaches was the intensity of the Burton U8's not only in attack but more impressively in defence, this led to a number of turnovers as Burton managed
to get 7 Tags off the Stoke team and force the turnover.
