The session began with a minute's silence in memory of rugby player, Luke Chapman, a pupil at Haybridge High in Hagley, who stopped breathing on the pitch at Baxter College in Kidderminster.
The squads were split into two even teams to play against Sutton's 16 players. Members of the Burton squad, Sam TSL, Sam R, Chris, Alex and Ed volunteered to take it in turns to make up numbers on the Sutton team.
4 matches were played with teams switching over after the first match. Each player played 2 whole games.
A strong Burton defensive line kept Sutton's score line low. There were some great tackles from everyone. Charlie, Luke, Theo, Sam TSL, Matthew B, Franklin and James did some great tackles!
Chris played head up rugby and reacted like lightening to make two great interceptions close to the Burton line, resulting in almost pitch long runs, scoring on both occasions. Will ripped the ball from Sutton players and ran down the line to score.
A mawl formed with several players from each side. J drove into the group from the back, achieved a great position, the pack instantly moved forward, the ball came out, Burton were able to snatch it and score.
A number of tries were scored across all matches by numerous players, including notable tries by Chris, Ed and Alex for the opposition..... :-)
An excellent mornings rugby, a great team effort. Everyone gave of their best and played in great spirit. Well done!!!
