Burton A v Melbourne A

Burton faced tough opposition in Melbourne. From the outset, Melbourne out in some strong tackles which prevented us from moving the ball as easily as we had in previous games. However, some good passing saw Burton take the first advantage, and a great run from Ed saw him wheel round the defence to within feet of the line. The ball came out to Will who scored his first try in a Burton shirt. It was then Burton's turn to defend hard as Melbourne piled the pressure on our line. Sam, Franklin and Archie all put in try-saving tackles to keep Melbourne at bay. With constant tackling from both teams, it was our success in the ruck which allowed us to drive back up the pitch, and despite some good defence by Melbourne, Kern managed to force his way through for the 2nd try.

Burton B v Melbourne B

Melbourne came out strong and immediately drove up to our line. Although the boys were defending well, Melbourne had the luck when a loose ball came out of the ruck and bounced fortuitously over the line directly in front of one of their players for an easy try. Burton came right back at them and tried passing out to the wings, but the Melbourne tackling was good and kept them pinned down. The game was very physical by both teams, with players on both sides taking some hard knocks.Unfortunately it was Melbourne that broke the dead lock, as their quicker players started to find ways through our defence. A blinding run from the halfway line took them over for their 2nd try. Burton did well in the scrums and line outs and fought for every ball, but the speed of the Melbourne players caught them out. Matthew tackled well to stop one clear run, but the pressure was relentless and Melbourne ran in a 3rd try just before the final whistle.
