Final

Burton arrived at Trentham to find that they were in one of the toughest leagues, despite this they started well against a strong Tamworth side. Both teams nullified each other, and some tough tackling and hard rucking saw both sides happy with what was a fair result. Burton then found themselves facing Lichfield. Again the first half was an even affair, no quarter asked for or given. The second half started the same as the first ended, but towards the end, the back to back matches against Tamworth and then Lichfield. After a short break Burton faced Leek, and looking for revenge, a powerful display of rucking and some good play amongst the backs saw them brush their opponents aside.
A brief rest before the semi saw the boys take a well earned rest. Then they squared up to Newcastle. From the outset it proved to be a game of both sets of forwards showing who was stronger, but some cunning work by Burton allowed them to get the ball to the backs who twice outfoxed their opponents. Newcastle got a late consolation, but either side would of been worthy winners of this encounter.
The final was gruelling contest, with Burton already carrying a few knocks, this saw a lot of the boys playing in new positions, they can hold their heads up high, as this was a final and a half, enjoyed by all who watched. Burton were the first to score and they looked comfortable, going into the second half leading. Newcastle seemed to get their second wind though and, thanks to some weary looking tackles, hit Burton with a quick hat trick of trys. The never say die attitude of Burton saw them get one back though, and the final whistle came too soon for Burton as they had their opponents reeling and on the ropes and were a couple of passes from equalizing when the ball went into touch to end the game.

A huge pat on the back to all the boys who played today, although we missed out on the silverware it was a good day. The young Crofters battled to the bitter end and never let their heads go down.
