After a long lay off, and only a couple of indoor training sessions, not a lot was expected from either team today. However, both teams produced an excellent display of rugby.

Stoke U10's 15-25 Burton U10's
Burton started well and soon had their opponents on the back foot, Stoke proved worthy opponents and their defence looked solid, eventually forcing Burton back to their own try try line. After soaking up a lot of pressure Stoke were the first to score. Burton did not let their heads go down though, and with what had to be their most dominant rucking display, again threw everything at their hosts. The backs picked some excellent lines and the passing game was also the best they have ever played. Burton soon managed to run in 2 trys of their own. Burtons scrum, again dominated, and Ben Mumford had his first go at scrum half which worked well as he formed a good partnership with Cameron Callow, at fly half, and Marcus Tolley at inside centre. Burtons defence was called into action again early in the second half, and it was Tolley who led from the front with his tackle count, this egged on his team mates and Stoke found themselves up against a brick wall. Burton ran in another 3 trys in the second half and Stoke got 2 of their own.

Stoke U10's 5-15 Burton U10's
The second match saw Burton come out in the same vain. With Mumford, seeming to have taken in the previous days training session of watching Burton 1st team, ordering his forward his forwards about and giving them direction, it wasn't long before the pack rucked and mauled their opponents over the try line to score. Tolley again defended like a man possessed, and, with help from Callow, produced endless amounts of turnover ball. Gibbs, at outside centre, ran some beautiful lines, and really put his body on the line, which showed when in scoring his try had to limp off with a knee injury. Another try for Burton and a late consolation try for Stoke saw the game draw to a close.

Stoke U10's 30-40 Burton U10's
The final game saw a very tired Burton struggle to keep up with Stoke, and if it wasn't for the tenacious tackling of Tolley, they would of been blown away in the first half. This seemed to give his team mates a second wind, and they managed to hang on to the coat tails of their hosts, trailing by 2 trys at half time. The break gave Burton time to recoup, and eventually saw them start to get on top, Hector Abel showing how to do it, as he put his body on the line to put in a crunching tackle to stop a try, which saw him limp off. The front row of Eddy Brown, Thomas Allanson-Smith and Tom Harrison stepped up to the plate and in a titus-anic struggle! they overpowered their hosts and gave the backs a great platform to work from, an amazing second half display saw them, not pull level but, blow Stoke away, ending with a champagne try by Gibbs.

A big thanks to Stoke for hosting, and a great big pat on the back for all of the young Crofters that pulled on a Burton shirt, you made us all proud today.

Burton try scorers- Brown(3), Gibbs(5), Abel(2), Mumford(2), Callow(2), Tolley, Harrison.
