Burton competed against Trentham and Longton in three games in wet and windy conditions.
Team 1 played against Trentham and got off to a slow start. They defended their own line and absorbed a constant wave of pressure for 10 minutes. They managed to make some hard yards up the pitch but struggled to get their flow going until around the last 5 minutes of the game. They proved to be a lot stronger against the Longton team, appearing to have switched on and playing more physically. Matt Philliskirk came away with the player of the match award for this team. He put in the maximum amount of effort from start to finish, tackling and rucking well, carrying the ball with aggression and never taking a backward step in either game.
Team 2 faired a little better in their games, working well as a unit to carry the ball up the pitch and scoring some real team tries. They ignored the weather conditions and focused on their attack with some excellent running and passing to get over the try line numerous times.
The award for this team went to Callum Bateman who was relentless in attack and defence. He counter rucked and won the ball back for his team on numerous occasions, tackled well and worked his socks off for every second he was on the pitch.
Well done to Matt and Callum and for the rest of the team for persevering through a really horrible morning weather-wise.
