Burton U11's traveled to Ashby this week for their 3rd game of the season. Burton had enough players to field 3 teams this week but with Ashby's numbers not so affluent, two games ran simultaneously with rolling substitutions.
Before the games started, the coaches asked the players to focus on their rucking and tackling, and didn't they deliver just that. As the games progressed the player's confidence grew and they were able to demonstrate their understanding of how important it is to secure the ball after the tackle has been made.
Special mentions this week are for Reefe Nell who has shown a huge improvement in his tackling abilities. He has been working hard on this and it is a joy to see his confidence growing. Joshua Norcup also for his tackling, determination, and focus during the games and to Jacob Shackles for really sticking to the agenda and showing some real dominance with his rucking.
Our players of the match this week have gone to Luke Warner who played his third game of rugby today? You wouldn't believe it was his third game - one of the coaches said that he must have picked up a rugby ball the day that he was born. He carried the ball with aggression and power, got himself in some good supportive positions, and threw himself into every tackle.
Callum Bateman was the second player of the game, receiving the award for his fearless tackling. Callum is able to show his skills in all areas of the game and is a pleasure to coach due to his positive attitude and ability to learn quickly. Callum was asked to tackle hard and he did just that but with excellent technique and showing no fear.
Well done to all players for again upholding the core values of the game with 'teamwork' being the value that was most evident. This team is improving each week and we are so excited to see what the next match brings.
