In their second league game of the season, the Lions played host to a strong Uttoxeter side.

Uttoxeter started strongly putting Burton under pressure but Burtons defence was good enough with Chris Brown and Sam Turner putting in early tackles while Jack Champney and Tom Hunt put in some strong runs, Hunt and a Uttoxeter player were injured in one of his runs and both had to leave the field, Hunt was able to return shortly after. Champney won a lineout, and the ball went from Henry Andrew, Callum Sanderman and then to Nathan Stokes who was tackled just short of the try line. Uttoxeter were under some pressure and kicked for safety. The kick was caught by Joe Bird who jinked past a couple of players and then found Tom Dawber; he fed Champney who burst over for Burtons first try. The score remained 5 – 0 until half time.
Burton kicked off the second half and tackled the receiver on their 22 meter line. Champney stole the ball and passed to Seb Chesterman who had just come on. He darted over for his first try. Burton were playing well, Sam Wardega had made several runs and nearly scored but was bravely tackled 5 meters out. Uttoxeter again kicked only to find Matt Prince who burst past several Uttoxeter players before being forced into touch. Adam Cooke then counter attacked before Uttoxeter won the ball but good pressure made them fumble, Brown and Chesterman were up quickly to steal the ball resulting in Chesterman sprinting over for his second try. Tom Hunt kept tackling throughout the match, then Burton seemed to fall asleep when Uttoxeter were awarded a penalty near the Burton line resulting in a converted try to Uttoxeter. Burton almost scored two more late tries. Good pressure by Ian Evans saw him tackled just short of the line and then Sam Turner and Ross Burrows-Flower linked well, Tuner went over for a fine “try” which wasn’t awarded as Ross had been judged to have stepped into touch. An entertaining game with both teams contributing well resulted in a 15 – 7 win to Burton.
