Ashfield RUFC is nestled in the bosom of Sutton in Ashfield and was the setting of the return of Jacob following from his recent injury. It was always going to be a difficult day for a depleted Ashfield but nobody was prepared for the shock and awe from the get go. Burton scored their first try from kick off and this unsettled the home team. Ashfield picked themselves up and won the next scrum but were unable to prevent the ball being turned over leading to the second try. JP displayed the chasing and determination that would become his signature today in closing quickly on the home team before releasing a quick pass for the next try. Several more scores followed with each being converted by a solid Charlie who seems to be renewed with a greater technical awareness. Charlie also showed great skills with a solid catch and several strong runs gaining metres. The second half saw JP continue to show his chasing, both for Burton and against Ashfield, and nothing highlighted this more than the breaking of Ashfield hearts when he chased a player on a try scoring breakaway to bring him down on the 22. Will was a machine today bringing what he learnt from the Tigers camp and ploughing through players like a tank. The final Burton try came from a newly shod Riley whose blue boots were as dazzling as his footwork. Ashfield were reenergised in the second half thanks to great decisions made by coaches and this led to a try. And then there was…handbags. Overall a good natured match with Ashfield being excellent hosts. The icing on the cake was the cake to celebrate the birthday of Dru so a big thank you from the boys to Sonia.
