Burton U15’s end their season with tour victories against Hull Ionians and Beverley.
Burton bounced back after recent losses with a fine team performance against northern opponents. The touring Crofters took on Beverley in the first match of a triangular tournament. Prop Matt Smith opened the scoring and Beverley rallied to equalise. Burton regained the lead with a try by Liam Mellor. The pack controlled possession in the second half and provided a platform for the backs to attack. Centre Anthony Dicker weaved his way through to score and Max Ordish sealed a 20-5 victory with a try following a storming run from half way.
The hosts Hull Ionians beat Beverley 22-17 to set up the deciding match with touring Burton. Captain Mark Woodward rallied the team and Matt Smith charged over for the first of his hat trick of tries. Hull showed pace in the backs and took a 10-5 lead in the first half. Williams lead from the front to score twice after the interval. Winger Dale Potter finished well as the Crofters played with skill, control and confidence. Fly half Andy Barnett and inside centre Ben Jenks combined well and both succeeded with conversions. The Crofters ran out worthy winners 22-10.
