A nervous day for all, Burton having suffered a few defeats and having lost to Newcastle the last time, it was to be an interesting morning ! Almost a full squad turned up at Newcastle on a sunny but cold day to play this important league game. The morning had a worrying start as many of the boys had boots deemed inappropriate due to 'studs', which meant a lot of boot swapping !

The game started and it took 20 mins of hard work from both teams before the referee awarded a penalty try to Burton against Newcastle, for blocking & over the top etc. This was a new one for us, but worked to spur Burton on, as Joe J quickly scored another converted try. The boys were into the game now and Jack M scored a try followed by Zack's try converted by Jack M. A final try in the first half from Jack M saw the half time score at Burton 31 Newcastle 0.

The second half saw Burton make six changes to ensure all lads had half a game. Burton's confidence was up but Newcastle came out fighting and were not going to make this an easy second half. Steve managed to get a try converted by Marcus. Then Newcastle were also awarded a penalty try for blocking, getting them back in the game. Newcastle battled hard to the end but Burton managed one final try from Joe J which again was converted by Marcus to give a final score of Burton 45 Newcastle 7

All the Burton lads turned up with a positive attitude and it was obvious that everyone of them wanted this win. To be fair it was not an easy game and Newcastle put up a battle, especially in the second half.

The Burton teamwork was the best we have seen all season and this showed in the end result, the lads should be really proud of themselves. They just need to do the same gain against Walsall in January !
