Burton U16’s arrived at Newcastle with a squad of only 13, many missing through injury. This had a negative effect on the team who lacked any subs and meaning many players were playing out of position. This negativity gifted Newcastle with three trys , two converted, early on in the game, not helped by Burton playing a squad of 13 and Newcastle 14. The squads were evened out and Burton worked hard allowing Marcus to score a try in the corner. Newcastle then went onto to score a further four trys, two of which were converted, before Burton managed to squeeze in one last converted try from Marcus before the half time whistle. 43/12
The second half started off again with Burton looking well beaten and Newcastle quickly scoring four converted trys. At this point many teams would have accepted defeat, but in true Burton U16's style the lads suddenly woke up and started to work their way back into the game with Cam scoring a well worked try, converted by Marcus. This was followed with another well worked try by Hector again converted by Marcus. The last try of the game came from a great run from Joe scoring in the corner. 71/29
It was always going to be a hard game with only 13 players, but if the lads had shown the determination they played in the last 15 minutes earlier on in the game, the score could have been much closer. Well done to the lads that did put in some big tackles ! Things to work on - start the game with the same determination and enthusiasm we seem to find at the end of a game !
