After a two week break the mighty B's were back in action as were both 1st , A Team and Colts this weekend , the Managment teams met on Tuesday night do selection , plenty of numbers to pick from and we all walked away happy with who was in what team ...what a difference a few days can make with drop outs galore , teamwork makes the dreamwork though and with a numerous changes which saw the 1st go away with and interesting array of talent on the bench !!! , some B Team lads getting there opportunity with the A's and the strength in depth of the B's squad we went with 19 lads up for the challenge that awaited us at L&K .
We arrived albeit a little late as Cam took Valentines Day to extreme and was still celebrating it on Friday night !!!. We know what to expect from Linley and this game proved no different, a massive pack with the biggest heaviest front row in the league backed up by 2 equally big props on the bench who they rotate well , L&K play one way direct and on what can only be described as a Paddy Field of a pitch, probably the worst and wettest we have encountered all season it played into their hands . Our game plan was simple get it out of the scrum as quickly as possible and let the backs do there work .
After 10 minutes we took the lead, some good work initially at a scrum which saw Stu and Ryan put in a great shift for the best part of 70 minutes with both swapping sides when required to counter there larger opposite numbers , some good carries by the back row Yigit carrying strongly the ball ultimately ending in center Kirkys hands who sidestepped a couple to get over the line ... difficult conversion missed
Score B's 5-0 L&K
L&K came back with strong carries from the forwards especially their 8 and it took some big hits and strong defence to keep them at bay young Ethan putting in some great tackles on the wing and when going forward combined well with brother Cam showing pace and strength out wide, our second score came from a some good defence , ball turned over and quickly went to our impressive 9/10 combo of Joe and Daz resulting in Joe leaving the defence in his wake to score his first of the day ..extras added this time by Daz
Score B's 12-0 L&K
The remainder of the first half played out the same and with 3 minutes to go a similar move involving most of the back line saw Joe score his second of the game ..extras added again by Daz
Half Time B's 19-0 L&K
Half Time team talk was simple keep doing the same, kick well and try and use what was the drier corner of the pitch , we knew they would come back strong for the first quarter which they did gaining some territory and from a line out and subsequent maul after 5 minutes they touched down to register their first score of the day ..extras missed though
Score B's 19-5 L&K
The next 10 minutes saw us pretty much camped down their end of the field and given the conditions saw some great interplay and planned moves coming off through our backline , slick handling saw Cam join the line at pace , go round a couple of defenders to score our bonus point try under the posts with the extras again added by Daz
Score B's 26-5 L&K
L&K rotated the props again , we immediately came under pressure and one planned move and miss call too many resulted in the ball being knocked on which gave them the scrum within our 22 ,Ryan and Stu looking suitably impressed at this..... if looks could kill !!! after and couple of resets the big Linley pack pushed us back and were rewarded with their second try of the game ...extras missed
Score B's 26-10 L&K
Not to be deterred though from the restart we poured forward and reclaimed the ball . strong carries and recycling of the ball eventually saw second row Shaun Hudson crash over for his first try for the club on 72 minutes which effectively put the game out of reach for L&K and then on 74 minutes the icing on the cake, with us again camped in their 22 , forwards doing the donkey work , ball into the backs hands and after a couple of reverse passes , switches and double salkos that didn't go to hand ...few simple explicit instructions from yours truly saw a conventional set of passes result in us scoring under the posts , Joe returning the favour and jug avoidance to Daz from the first game against Linley ...those there will know what I mean :)
Final Score B's 40-10 L&K
In summary in very difficult conditions a good game played in great spirit by both sides the objective achieved 5 points that keep us Top Of The League . Four games to go now so lets keep the momentum going and do what's never been done before by the 3rd team .
Everybody played their part in this game so very difficult to pick out individuals but all agreed MOM was Stu who played 72 minutes switched to both sides of the scrum with Ryan and all on the back of only 45 minute's sleep after doing a night shift .
DOD was Killer who replaced Stu in the FR and after one scrum wanted to take on the full L&K front row on his own .
