The Bs travelled to Wolverhampton to play the reverse fixture against Essington , a team who had a very slick back line which caused us problems whenever they got the ball resulting in three try's against us in the game at Battlestead .... most will have seen the try's on their TikTok reel !! .
What we weren't expecting was the battle that ensued , the Essington lads were clearly up for the fight at some times literally ...to our guys credit though and despite some provocation we maintained our composure and kept 15 on the field at all times , unlike our opponents who totally lost it on occasions which resulted in one red which could have been more , the referee handled a difficult game well and at the end complemented us on our behavior during the match.
We kicked off into the wind and were soon camped in their half ,our forwards carrying well and when the ball was played out wide our speedsters used the ball well passing through the hands , it only took us 3 minutes to register our first score which saw prop Stu Hutton barreling over the line with Harry adding the extras.
Score Essington 0-7 B's
The next 20 minutes were a battle with some massive hits going in from both sides no more so than the one from big Stu , where Robs nose came into contact with Stu's head ...result broken nose .. and to compound the issue Ess were awarded a penalty for knock on which they converted to reduce the arears .
Score Essington 3-7 B's
It didn't take us long though to take a firm hold on the game with 3 more try's added and the bonus point secured before half time. Scored by a resurgent Charlie Wright who is enjoying his rugby again and has nailed down a great center partnership with Kirky , Josh Barlow and Cam Summers scoring the other two , Harry converting one of these to take us in at half time with a commanding lead .
Half Time Essington 3-24 B's
We were confident of stretching this lead in the second period with the wind now at our backs , Ess though made a few changes at half time bringing on their big prop who when carrying took some stopping and he duly added the first score which their 10 converted .
Score Essington 10-24 B's
The game then became a bit of a war zone with late hits and high hits going in left right and center , the ref had his work cut out to retain control and on a couple of occasions bought both captains together to issues a warning ...we listened they didn't and continued to give penalties away which we capitalized on with Stoney again going over for yet another try , converted by Harry .
Score Essington 10-31 B's
The next 10 minutes probably decided the final outcome as Ess did score again through Big Prop but their indiscipline caught up with them as the ref handed out a red card and reduced them to 14 with 15 minutes to go .
Score Essington 17-31 B's
The extra numbers allowed us to pretty much play out the final 5 minutes camped in their half , with penalty after penalty being given away by the Ess lads and no real surprise when Call HW picked up and in what's becoming and bit of a trademark try charging over from about 10 metres with defenders in his wake , Harry added the extras then another 3 from the tee for another infringement at the breakdown .
Final Score Essington 17-41 B's
In summary we set out to play 4 and win 4 in January after the Xmas break ...we did this and remain top with 6 games to go , we only have two games planned in Feb so the next objective is to win both of these, the first being this coming Saturday at home to St Leonard's so get your availabilities updated please ahead of selection tonight .
