Last seasons games against Essington were close affairs with honor's even and only a few points separating two evenly matched teams so we expected similar this time and so it proved .
It was certainly a game of 2 halves with the B's soon into there stride and using a strong pack to good effect consistently dominating in the set piece, after 15 minutes we had scored 2 try's with one converted the first by George HW picking and driving from the base and then a backs try after a great break by the returning Kit Hodges from his arm injury sidestepping a couple of defenders and touching down .
Essington responded with a try of their own to take the scores after 25 minutes to B's 15-7 Essington , a sign of things to come in the second half though as Essington realizing they couldn't take us on up front got the ball out the back of the scrum quickly and then started using their backs to good effect . We scored our 3rd try just before half time after another slick move by the backs which saw center Kirky burst through a gap to touch down under the posts , the extra's added by Charlie Quinton . Essington responded with a penalty to increase their score to 10 .
Half Time Score B's 22-7 Essington 10
The second half kicked off with the Essington lads clearly up for it ,they used the same tactic of dont get involved in a forward battle , using there number 8 effectively picking from the base making some yardage then using their back line who I have to say were the best we had faced so far this season and after 6 minutes of the second half had drawn level with 2 try's and one conversion, too say we were at this stage a little worried was an understatement and both Danny and myself aged and went a little greyer during this period . The B's though are now made of sterner stuff and battled and defended to keep in the game , this then paid off when we got our bonus point try on 70 minutes with Josh Barlow going over in the corner after some great handling skills from his team mates and the tough conversion added by Josh Balance . We then managed the final ten minutes of the game well and got our reward with a penalty after an infringement at the ruck, Josh adding the final points with the last kick of the game , giving us another win that keeps us at the top of the table after 6 games .
MOM had to be Joe Ensor who led by example during that second period of sustained Essington pressure with some try saving tackles .
Cant finish with mentioning Paz's barnstorming run down the touchline taking out 3 would be Essington defenders in his normal way , slightly out of character though was his attempted kick ahead ....will let you look at the Veo to see the outcome unless that is Paz has had it
removed !!!!
Final Score B's 32-22 Essington
