Looking to make it two wins in a row Burton started the game strongly against the usual well, organised Walsall team and penned them back in their own twenty-two for the first fifteen minutes. Unluckily though this pressure could not be turned into points as the visitors defence held firm and then the worst thing happened and Walsall turned over the ball to race up field to score helped by some poor Burton tackling.
Burton battled back and at times matched the opposition’s organisation and power but as the game wore on the experience and team work of the Walsall side became more and more evident. Eventually the visitors ran in several more tries and even the introduction of Kieran Dadley and Ben Waldron to strengthen the set pieces couldn’t stop this flow of points as Walsall reached half time 28-0 in the lead.
In the second half Burton started strongly and when Dadley took a scrum against the head Waldron picked up from the base to power over for Burton’s first points for Alex Jardine to convert and take the score to 7-28.
But Burton’s joy was short lived as Walsall again took control of the game to run out eventual winner at 45-7.
