Burton ‘A’ XV travelled to Coventry to play Midlands 5 side Saracens after their original home fixture had been cancelled by the opposition and duly posted a very well deserved 55-7 victory. First half tries by Tristan Gill, Ali Eastwood (2), Ben Waldron and Steve Cramp (2) with Jack Bartram converting four of them gave the visitors a healthy 38-0 lead at the break.
After this full-frontal first half Burton went off the boil in the second half and saw their game deteriorate before some loose defensive play by Luke Peach allowed the home side to score a converted consolation try. This appeared to sting Burton back into life and some good work and a powerful forward surge by James Parker saw Ben Stone and the ever-present Dave Viles both add further tries to take the score to 48-7.
Burton continued to pile on pressure and James Hamilton emerged from a maul to race thirty metres to touchdown under the posts for Bartram to convert. With the opposition now beginning to wilt the referee blew the final whistle ten minutes early to save even more punishment being inflicted. Burton were left to journey home with a satisfying 55-7 victory under their belts and looking for a sterner contest in their next fixture.
