Burton kicked off and put in a good chase. Peterborough Lions then went through five phases of play without emerging from their own half before Burton turned the ball over. Burton then pressed forward though Lawrence Betty, returned from injury, Ed Henry, Tom Murphy and James Burrough until a knock-on interrupted proceedings. Burton then won a penalty at the scrummage which Harry Titley kicked to the corner. Joe Gazzard won the lineout but the home side drove the ball into touch and cleared their lines.
Play went into the Burton half and Peterborough Lions then counter-attacked from a kick and ran in a try, which went unconverted, with ten minutes on the clock. Burton then attacked through Jack Neal and Betty, but once the home side regained possession they were able to move the ball quickly and score from their own half.
Whilst the home side were powerful at the scrum they gave away another penalty which was just slightly too far out for Daryl Banton to be able to gain three points. Peterborough Lions forward power brought the next try after twenty four minutes before their next attack was halted by great tackling from Tom Murphy and Betty. A penalty came the way of Burton but a lost lineout ensured the pressure remained on and despite a promising break-out featuring good handling by Luke Peach, Peterborough Lions were able to profit from a fine individual try.
Burton were soon under the cosh again and a break in the centre led to another try. With half time approaching Burton managed to stop an attack close to they try line, but the pressure prevailed and a sixth try was conceded.
James Davies replaced Burrough at hooker for the second half. Burton made the first attack of the half but were unable to break down the defence and then Liam Hucknall turned over after the home side counter attacked but once again Burton were unable to score. Dom Musetti and Dave Henry were brought into the fray. Neal and Craig Dutton made a good break on the blind-side before Betty went on the crash and Harry Titley found touch in the corner. This promising move for Burton ended with a penalty being conceded and the home side were able to relive the pressure. There were twenty three minutes on the clock before the sore-board moved again when the home Fly Half was able to cross for a try but then missed the target with his kick.
Alex Nesbitt was able to make a half break but again it came to nought and Peterborough Lions were on the attack again. Banton held the ball up over the line but as Burton tried to play out of trouble the opposing Full Back ran back with interest and crossed for a try. A flurry of late scores in quick succession made the final score 74-0 to one of the best sides Burton have met in this difficult season
