Visitors Kenilworth kicked off, but were soon pushed back into their own 22 by a raking kick from Ian Gilmour. Kenilworth won the line out but the first receiver knocked on and Burton had a promising 5 metre scrum in the corner. After two phases Burton conceded a penalty, followed swiftly by another and the early advantage slipped away. Craig Dutton and Daryl Banton combined to make a break before Gilmour boomed another kick to touch. Again Burton conceded a penalty, which was to become a theme, and Kenilworth were able to make it beyond half way before a Dutton choke tackle regained possession for The Crofters.
Banton then sniped and Burton were soon 5m from the try line. Twice Kenilworth conceded penalties but Burton maintained the pressure with Joe Briggs going close to scoring before Dutton barged over for the first try. Banton allowed for the strong wind with his kick, but the ball didn't,t change it course and slipped wide of the left upright. Sam Smith, returning on loan, was next to break the line but a tap tackle halted his progress. The pitch was surprisingly dry, however the strong wind was having an effect and it held up a Gilmour cross -kick before Kenilworth countered and kicked deep. Harry Titley secured the loose ball 5 metres out, only for support players to go off their feet.
The visitors took a quick tap and crossed for a try. The kick was unsuccessful. As half time approached, Burton conceded a stream of penalties for offside, however weren't under too much of a threat. Will Brooks snaffled a Kenilworth line out and Sam Benjamin launched a counter-attack. The move broke down and Brooks limped off the pitch to be replaced by Tom Harris.
Debutant Liam Hucknell replaced Briggs on the flank and Burton came close to breaking the deadlock after Matt Tivey shrugged off a few defenders and the ball was then put out to to the right wing only for the last pass to be knocked on. Burton looked by far the more lively side with Loz Betty, James Burrough, Josh Cartwright, Tom Murphy, Dutton and Tivey all getting their hands on the ball. A penalty was awarded in front of the posts and Banton gave Burton an 8 - 5 lead, before he was replaced by youngster Eddie Nicholls. The wind changed from across the pitch to be at Kenilworth backs and they enjoyed their best territory of the game so far. Burton defended well, Cartwright stole a lineout, Nicholls kicked well and it looked as if the storm was weathered before Kenilworth chose to kick a penalty at goal from 35 metres and levelled the score with less than 20 minutes to play.
Burrough chased the kick-off and secured a turnover. Betty, Benjamin and Harris combined well taking the ball within 5m. A deliberate knock-on from a defender halted the move. It seemed perhaps that it wasn't to be for Burton, but with twelve minutes rearming a solid Burton scrum gave a platform and Betty picked a great line to cross for a try. Matt Boden was given the kicking duties, however the wind was now so strong that it was a thankless task. Three minutes later Gilmour kicked deep and Benjamin chased hard to tackle the Full Back. Burton turned over and moved the ball infield, where Burrough crashed over to score. Hucknell ran the kick-off back to half way. A sweeping Burton move took play first the right wing and then back in-field. Gilmour threw out a long pass to Betty, who switched with Titley towards the left wing. Boden was then in support to wriggle over the line for a fantastic bonus point securing try. Four points to Burton and a loss for third placed Hereford leaves an 8 point gap between the two clubs.
