The Coventry based side were 11th in the league table before the match, one place below Burton, so both sides had everything to play for. The visitors started better and when they got into the Burton 22, Burton were penalised for being offside at the ruck. The kicker put the ball between the posts to open the scoring.
Burton were then able to do some attacking of their own and after the forwards carried the ball up field it was passed along the back line to winger Harris Mountford who scored in the corner. The conversion was missed but Burton were in the lead.
This lead did not last long however as the visitors scored two tries in quick succession due to missed tackles in the centre of the field. The second of these was converted.
Burton were still in the match at this stage and when scrum half Chaz Bunting got tackled without the ball Will Simpson kicked a penalty from the Broadstreet 10 metre line to bring the deficit back to seven points.
Broadstreet then scored two more tries again mainly due to poor tackling. The first which was converted came from a break by the flanker. He was stopped short of the line but the Burton defence was unable to prevent a try being scored. The next one from a passing move by the backs and the winger ran around Nick Oxley to score in the corner.
Burton were still working hard and from the kick off lock Joe Gazzard charged down an attempted clearance kick and gathered the ball to charge over for a try. Simpson converted. There was no further significant action in the half, so the half time score was 15-27.
From the restart Burton tried to run the ball but dropped it and it was gathered by the Broadstreet centre who ran the ball back from the halfway line to score. The try was converted.
It was not long before they were on the score sheet again. This time when the forwards set up a maul, the scum half found a gap and ran unopposed to the line. The kicker again added the extra points.
Burton were stronger in the set scrums and when the visitors were penalised for a front row offence Burton chose another scrum and scored a pushover try. Number eight Ed Henry got the touch down. The conversion was missed.
Any thoughts of a Burton come back were snuffed out when they conceded a penalty in front of their own posts. The kicker took the three points on offer to further stretch their lead. The lead was stretched even further when the Broadstreet scrumhalf picked the ball up in his own half and beat three despairing tacklers to score another converted try.
Burton still attacked and forced a mistake from a Broadstreet defender. From the ensuing scrum they scored another pushover try with Henry again getting the touch down.
Broadstreet had the last word however when they won the ball from a scrum and ran through the centre to score under the posts. The try was converted with virtually the last kick of the game, so the final score was Burton 27 Broadstreet 56.
Burton will have to satisfy themselves with a try bonus point again. When they played Sheffield on 28th September, they did not concede a single try, but it seems that something disastrous has happened since then. Burton have shown that they can score points, but they will have to sort out their defence if they are going to stay in the Midlands Premier division.
