Immediately following the restart Burton turned the ball over again and put themselves under pressure. The visitors’ forwards drove into the heart of the Burton defence, recycled the ball quickly and some poor tackling allowed another try. This time the try was converted.
The visitors were now in control with a seemingly unassailable lead but Burton tried to reduce the deficit. When they finally got a passing move together without spilling the ball, winger Alex Nesbitt beat his man to score in the corner. Simpson failed with a difficult conversion attempt.
Burton went on the attack again in search of a bonus point and from a scrum on the visitors’ five metre line, substitute scrum half Kamva Lunqe ran in to score. The conversion was missed.
With about four minutes left the home team were hoping to get on the score sheet again to earn themselves a couple of bonus points. However, they were left with nothing as the visitors ran in two more tries before the final whistle. The first of these was from a scrum on the Burton ten metre line. The scrum half chipped the ball over the top of the Burton defence and the left winger chased it to score. The try was converted.
The second of the two tries and the last of the match was scored by the right winger from another kick, this time along the ground. He raced past the Burton defenders gathered the ball and ran in to score close to the posts. The kicker again added the extra points to make the final score Burton 16 Newport (Salop) 39.
