However, the side that came to Burton on Saturday contained several new players which Bournville had been able to sign following the collapse of the Birmingham Solihull club, which meant they were a strong team. Burton came under the cosh right from the kickoff and some poor tackling enabled the visitors to score a converted try inside the first minute.
It was not long before they were on the attack again and Burton had no answer to their pace power and precision and so the second try came after a few minutes. This time the conversion was missed.
Burton were unable to get any ball due to the superiority of the Bournville pack and although the visitors did nothing flamboyant, everything they did do was precise. They made no handling errors and when their forwards carried the ball they always made the gain line. In this manner they were able to score three further tries before half time. Two of these were converted to make the half time score 0-31.
Burton played better in the second half and although they did win more ball it was not quality ball and they were still unable to penetrate the strong Bournville defence. They tried to run with the ball but as they were chasing the game, they often tried to force a pass or dropped balls which they should have held on to. The three second half tries which the visitors scored all came from Burton mistakes. Two of these tries were converted to make the final score Burton 0 Bournville 48.
