The scrums were solid and they had most of the early possession. They won a penalty and Will Simpson kicked into touch on the 5 metre line. However, they lost the lineout and a chance went begging.
This was to be a pattern for the rest of the game. Probably due to the fairly strong wind, the lineout did not work well at all. Despite this Burton still had plenty of possession in the first half but were unable to penetrate the tough Broadstreet defence. It was inevitable that the home team would eventually have the ball and a few minutes before half time they were awarded a scrum on the Burton 5 metre line they won the scrum and although the visitors defended well initially, they could not prevent the Broadstreet forwards from driving over the line to open the scoring. The fullback added the extra two points.
Burton replied to this immediately with a try of their own. Fly half Harry Titley chipped the ball ahead and it was gathered by Loz Betty. He slipped it to James Davies who passed it to winger Josh Kent who scored in the corner. As Simpson was attempting to convert the ball blew off the tee so he picked it up and scored a drop goal from almost on the touch line with the last kick of the first half. The score at half time, was therefore 7-7.
In the second half Burton had to rearrange the scrum as prop Matt Tivey went off with an injury. The home scrum started to gain the ascendency and they had a lot more possession. From a clearance kick the Broadstreet fullback carved his way through the Burton defence and found his open side flanker in support to go over for a try. The full back added the extra points.
Now playing against the wind Burton struggled to get out of their own half. Broadstreet gained possession again and a series of missed tackles enabled them to score under the posts. The try was again converted.
Burton were still in the game at this stage and after pressurising the home defence they were awarded a penalty. They kicked for the corner again but this time the lineout worked well. The pack drove over the try line and Davies got the touch down. Simpson missed the conversion, but Burton were back in touch with the lead at 21-12.
However, Burton could not prevent the home team from scoring a further two tries. The first by the centre who had caused the Burton defence problems throughout the second half and the second from a scrum when they pushed the Burton pack backwards and picked up the loose ball and went over the line. The second of these tries was converted to stretch their lead to 21 points.
Burton never give up and they scored another try. Davies made a break and found flanker Jono Parkinson in support. He passed inside to scrum half Chaz Bunting who ran in under the posts to score. He quickly converted his own try with a drop goal to try and save time but unfortunately time was up and it was the last kick of the game. The final score was Broadstreet 33 Burton 19.
