The game started slowly with mistakes being made on both sides. However it was not long before Burton showed their superiority in both the backs and the forwards. They worked their way into the visitors’ 22 and won a kickable penalty but chose to kick for touch. The forwards won the line out and drove for the line but the ball was held up. From the ensuing scrum they drove over the line again for a push over try with number eight Dominic Taylor getting the touchdown. The conversion was missed.
The visitors tried to attack but strong defence from Burton pushed them backwards. Winger Dewi Williams charged down an attempted clearance kick and dribbled the ball to the goal line to score. The conversion was missed again.
From the restart Burton again went on the attack and after a good break by scrum half Chaz Bunting the ball was moved along the back line for full back Leroy Bitterhout to score on his home debut. A third conversion miss had spectators wondering if these wasted points might turn out to be crucial especially as the visitors now got into the game and through some good handling by their backs the winger scored in the corner. However the Worcester kicker also missed the conversion attempt so the score was now 15-5.
This galvanised the home team into action and they scored two more tries before half time. The first when after a run by Bitterhout he passed to Nick Oxley for his first try of the afternoon and the second was from a lineout when the pack set up a driving maul for Tom Murphy to break off and dive over for the touchdown. Chaz Bunting converted both of these tries so the half time score was 29-5.
After the interval Burton were straight into action when Jack Brooks made a break and passed to his fellow centre Lewis Brooks who scored under the posts. Bunting added the extra points to make the score 36-5
This try immediately after half time, seemed to make the visitors heads go down and therefore snuff out any chance they had of getting back into the game. A combination of poor tackling by Worcester and tremendous pace, skill and power by Burton saw the home team score five more tries through Nick Oxley, Lewis Brooks, Ricky Whitehall, Dewi Williams and Leroy Bitterhout. Bunting converted three of these to make the score now 67-5.
Burton will want to forget the last 15 minutes of the game. They seemed to lose concentration and a series of lazy kicks, and unnecessary long passes allowed the visitors to score three more tries two of which were converted making the final score 67-24. This sloppy play by Burton therefore allowed Worcester a bonus point which they never should have got. It was a comfortable win, however which sees Burton stay in fourth place in Midlands 1 West.
