Although Burton had a changed side due to injury and unavailability they proved too strong for Sutton who are one place from the bottom of the league.

Burton started well and would have scored almost immediately if a final pass had not been knocked forward. However this did not deter them and the forwards and backs soon combined to drive up the field with second row Joe Gazzard in support to take the final pass and open the scoring. The conversion was missed.

It soon became apparent that the Burton set scrum was superior to that of the home team and the visitors were awarded a penalty for a front row offence. Full back Will Simpson stepped up to kick the goal and increase the Burton lead to eight points.

The home team started to exercise some pressure of their own and although Burton defended well they gave away a penalty which their fly half kicked to bring the score to 3-8.

Burton were soon on the attack again and the Sutton full back was forced to kick the ball to touch to clear his line. Right winger Nick Oxley took a quick throw in to himself and then kicked for the left corner. Chaz Bunting playing on the left wing instead of in his customary scrum half position chased the kick and touched down for the second try. The conversion was again missed.

The visitors were playing well at this stage with plenty of men supporting the ball carrier and they were able to recycle the ball quickly. After another move where forwards and backs combined the final pass went to Jack Brooks to score under the posts. This time Simpson added the extra points.

From the kick off the home team got into the Burton 22 and were awarded another penalty which the kicker again put over to reduce their deficit. Burton were undeterred by this however and were soon in action again. The ball was passed swiftly along the back line and Oxley received the final pass and ran around to score under the posts. Simpson again added the two extra points.
Burton were to score one more try before half time when Simpson Joined the three quarter line and threw a long pass to Bunting who ran in to score his second try. With the kick being almost on the touch line Simpson was unable to convert so the half time score was 6-32.

It seems that Burton always drop their intensity and concentration after half time and allow the opposition back into the game and this week was no exception. True they were now playing up a slight incline and also true that the ball was becoming very greasy but their play became very scrappy and the tackling poor. The home team were therefore able to score two tries through the hard running of their backs and forwards alike. Burton scrambled well to try and prevent the first of these but in the end ran out of defenders. The second came because of poor tackling.

Both of these tries were converted which brought the home team to only two scores from the lead. Although Burton were not playing well at this time they were able to keep the home team pinned in their own half. Poor clearance kick did not find touch and Bunting kicked it along the ground to go over the line and secure his hat trick. Simpson again added the extra points. This was almost the last action of the game so Burton were comfortable winners in the end with the final score being Sutton Coldfield 20 Burton 39.
