Another Good Win for Burton

Another Good Win for Burton

Claire Bradley5 Nov 2017 - 12:21

Moseley Oak were placed fifth in the table coming into the match on Saturday.

The Birmingham side started well, retrieving the ball from the kick off but although the forwards were strong the backs were unable to penetrate the Burton defence. Burton tackled well and were soon able to get the ball clear.

Burton were then able to attack themselves. After winning the ball from a scrum they passed it along the back line to Lewis Brooks who straightened his line of running to score. Chaz Bunting added the extra two points.

Burton went on the attack again from the restart and after a good drive by the forwards the ball was again passed along the back line to centre Jack Brooks who sold a dummy to his opposite number and ran in to score the second try. The conversion was missed.

Burton were soon in the visitors’ half again and won a penalty for an infringement at the breakdown. Although the penalty was right in front of the posts they refused the kick at goal and took a tap. The ball was passed quickly to winger Dewi Williams, who ran in to score an unconverted try.

The visitors then got into the game and good driving by the forwards put the Burton defence under pressure. Although they tackled well initially they were unable to prevent the try. The conversion was missed.

This was to be the visitors’ only score in the game as Burton started to dominate. They got into the Moseley Oak half again and full back Will Simpson joined the line. He too sold a dummy to the Moseley defender and scored wide out. The conversion was again missed but once again Burton had secured the try bonus point before half time. There was no further significant action in the half so the half time score was Burton 22 Moseley Oak 5.

Burton were soon in action again and won another penalty as the visitors were offside. They won the line out and Hooker James Davies made a driving run from the back of the maul. He found number eight Joe Gorman in support to score. The conversion was again missed.

Burton were now in control of the game and fly half Harry Titley made an accurate kick ahead which forced the visitors’ winger to knock it into touch. Burton took a quick throw in before the lineout was formed and Simpson ran in for his second try of the afternoon. Bunting kicked the conversion.

The visitors changed their tactics and instead of kicking the ball clear they tried to run from their own 22 but some good quality tackling and a series of good kicks to the corner by fly half Titley kept them pinned down. When they eventually broke clear they were unable to threaten the Burton try line. The Burton scrum was now becoming dominate and they won a penalty for a front row offence. A quick tap was taken and Jack Neal crashed over for the final try. This was also unconverted so the final score was Burton 39 Moseley Oak 5.
