The Cheshire side defeated Burton in September. So the home side were keen to redress the balance.
Both sides started well with the visitors attacking and the home team putting on some good tackles. When Burton got into their opponents half they tried to run the ball but the visitors’ defence held up well. However a kick ahead was knocked forward and from the ensuing scrum the ball found its way to centre Jack Brooks who beat his man to score under the posts. Dave Archer kicked the conversion to make the score 7-0.
From the kick off the visitors again attacked through their forwards but the Burton defence was equal to the task and held firm. Some good running from the home backs got them close to the goal line and Kelvin Browne in support went over for a try. The conversion was missed so the score was now 12-0.
Burton again tried to attack but finding the Crewe and Nantwich defence solid fly half Harry Titley decided to kick the ball behind them. Winger Nick Oxley gathered the ball and scored close enough to the posts to ensure that Archer was able to add the extra two points. The score at half time was 19-0.
After the restart it became clear that the visitors attack was fairly one dimensional and although they attacked well through the forwards the ball rarely reached their fly half. This meant that the Burton defence was well able to deal with any pressure. The Burton pack by this time was getting on top and providing good quality ball for the backs to work with. From a typical rampaging run by substitute Will Roach the ball was quickly recycled and passed along the back line for Dave Archer to score in the corner. Unfortunately Archer failed to convert his own try as the ball hit the post and bounced out. The score was now 24-0 and with three tries having been scored by the home team they needed one more to get a bonus point.
There followed a quiet period when neither side achieved much but eventually Jack Brooks again made a fine break. He passed the ball to winger Dave Archer who could not quite make it to the line, however he managed to transfer the ball to substitute scrum half Darryl Banton who crossed the line for the bonus point try. The conversion was missed so the final score was 29-0.
Burton remain in third place in Midlands 1 West as Bournville defeated Dudley Kingswinford.
