A commanding first half performance from Burton set up a fine victory over Bournville. A couple of early knock-ons saw possession switch hands before a Burton scrum powered forward and then Fly Half Harry Titley ghosted through the defence for a try which he was then unable to convert.
Burton remained on the front foot with some fluent play between Tom Harris, Lee English, Dewi Williams, Tom Murphy and Matt Tivey ended with a penalty but the points were not secured.
Bournville made some ground before English countered then the forwards made a number of pick and goes but the ball was lost. Josh Cartwright counter-rucked before Jack Neale and Jack Brooks combined to release Tom Benjamin who crossed in the corner. Titley stroke over a fine conversion.
Mid-way through the first half Burton produced some great inter-play before Brooks threw out a long pass which was taken forward by Williams and Benjamin who then found Eddie Nicholls on hand to score. Titley narrowly missed the conversion.
Burton were mixing up their play and when the forwards rumbled ahead in a driving maul which ended in a penalty. Titley found touch for the lineout to be tapped and then Nicholls picked up the ball and danced through the forwards and showed a clean pair of heels to the half backs for a great try.
Burton made a hash of the kick off and gave the visitors chance to attack for the first time but ended with poor handling. Play remained in the Burton half and Burton were offside. A kick to touch was followed by a crooked throw and then Joe Gazzard and Loz Betty powered forward and a penalty gave Burton chance to clear their lines.
The Burton scrum was dominant and they gave a platform for the backs to give Williams a chance on the left wing who made a big hand-off and scored in the corner. Titley fired over a magnificent conversion to give Burton a 29-0 lead at the break.
Bournville were a different side after the break and their Inside Centre streaked 60 metres to score a try under the posts. Burton were pinned back for a spell and conceded penalties. Some excellent defence kept Bournville out Harris subsequently surged into the opponents half to relieve the pressure. Francisco Zemele replaced the injured Tivey. Titley chipped over the defence into touch and it then appeared that Nicholls would score again but Liam Hucknall’s pass was forward. Burton won the scrum against the head and then Betty combined smartly with Benjamin for the latte to score. Titley converted.
Bournville pressed Burton hard and some missed tackles compounded the situation but the defence held out. Hucknall and Zemele took play back into the Bournville half but the visitors pushed forward again and scored from a quick penalty an added the conversion courtesy of a good bounce off the post.
Billy Peach replaced Titley but the Captain was soon back on the field to replace Williams who suffered from cramp.
English made a good run from deep but the ball was kicked forward into opposition hands at a ruck and Burton were taken back into their twenty two. Nicholls broke clear and found English n his shoulder to score. Peach made the difficult conversion look easy. Ben Cook replace Hucknall on the blind-side.
Bournville scored a further try from broken play to make it 43-21, but great hands from Gazzard put Benjamin in for a last gasp try and Burton maintained their unbeaten run with a 48-21 victory.
