A real life Officer and a Gentleman.
Toby played at the club in the mid-nineties, and although he wasn't from Burton he travelled to play every week and Burton soon became an 'adoptive home' for Toby and many of the other Army guys that played around the same time. He threw himself into Burton life and enjoyed the social side of Our Club as much as the playing side. Toby was a regular at our Annual Ball, and would hit the great night spots that Burton had to offer every weekend, including the highlights of that era, Leopard, Jubilee, Arkwrights, Black Horse and Buster’s Nite Club!!
In October last year Toby was diagnosed with cancer and given only weeks to live. His girlfriend Carmen proposed to Toby and they married before deciding to move back to the UK from South Africa to be with his parents. Although it is now seven months since he was diagnosed, and having gone through treatment, Toby faced reality and knew it was only a matter of time, but being the organised guy that he was, he wanted to have everything in order before he died. He was very aware that Carmen and his Mum and Dad only know about small parts of his life so he was keen for them to hear as many stories as possible about his life. So if you have a tale to tell or a photograph to share then they would be extremely grateful. They don’t have to be funny stories just fond memories that you might have.
Please send any tales or photos to JJ.Jeffrey@retalix.com and he will ensure that these get passed on
Toby’s funeral will be held on Monday 20th June at 2:30 p.m. at the West Wiltshire Crematorium, Devizes Road, Semington.
