The 2025/26 season proved to be another highly successful campaign for Burton Rugby Colts, delivering both impressive results on the field and continued progression of players into senior rugby.
Competing across the Staffordshire Transition Programme, NLD Colts League, Staffordshire County Colts Cup and National Colts Cup, the squad enjoyed an outstanding season, winning 20 of their 24 fixtures. The highlight of the campaign came in the Staffordshire County Colts Cup Final, where Burton produced a superb performance to defeat Wolverhampton 40-24 at Wednesbury RFC and lift the trophy.

This success was built on the momentum generated by the previous season's achievements in the NLD Plate competition.
On the field, the squad developed a clear and exciting identity. Built upon strong set-piece foundations, the team played an ambitious brand of rugby, combining physicality with skill, width and attacking intent. Their ability to move the ball and play expansive rugby became a hallmark of the season, contributing significantly to their success.
Player development remained a central focus of the programme, as reflected in the progression of several players into senior rugby. Dan Burns and Ryan Moll both made their Burton 1st XV debuts during the season, while a number of other Colts players gained valuable experience representing the A XV and B XV, supporting their transition into adult rugby and strengthening the club's senior player pathway.
The team was led superbly by captain Dan Burns, whose performances and leadership were recognised through selection for the Midlands Under-18 programme. He was ably supported throughout the season by Alfie Gibbs and Kobie Monkam, who played key leadership roles within the squad.
The continued success of the Colts programme extends beyond results and trophies. The environment created by players, coaches and volunteers continues to develop talented rugby players and well-rounded young men, ensuring Burton Rugby Club remains well-positioned for future success. With a strong culture, a successful player pathway and another trophy-winning season behind them, the future remains extremely bright for Burton Rugby Colts.

"I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the Colts coaching and management team for their outstanding commitment, professionalism and hard work throughout the season.
Jordan and Michael have once again demonstrated exceptional coaching ability, creating an environment that challenges, develops and inspires players to reach their potential. Their knowledge of the game, attention to detail and dedication to player development have been instrumental in the team's success both on and off the field. The clear playing identity established within the squad and the progression of players into senior rugby are a testament to the quality of their coaching.
Equally, special thanks must go to Stu Shenton and Danny Bayes, whose tireless work behind the scenes ensures the programme runs smoothly week after week. Their organisation, support and unwavering commitment to the players and coaches provide the foundation upon which the Colts programme continues to thrive.
Together, they have created a positive, ambitious and supportive environment that not only develops talented rugby players but also helps shape young men ready for the next stage of their rugby and personal journeys. Their collective commitment to Burton Rugby Club and the Colts programme is greatly appreciated and has played a significant role in another highly successful season."
