Sad News

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the sudden passing of former player Giles Cook on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

Giles was just 49 and suffered a completely unexpected cardiac arrest.

Giles was a former colt, having played under the stewardship of Roy Clark from 1991 until departing for University. Giles often returned to play at Buton on Boxing Day alongside his brother Marcus.

Giles went on to play for a brief period for Bedford Blues before relocating and playing for Plymouth Albion. The majority of his rugby was played at Letchworth before injury forced him to step away from the game.

He loved his time playing for Burton, and it is a club that stayed very close to his heart. He was a much-loved husband, father, son and brother and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Giles is pictured in the front row holding the ball. There will be a one-minute silence before the Men's 1st XV game this weekend.
