It is with much sadness that we report that Rose Heptonstall has sadly passed away.

Although Rose was not a great follower of rugby, she was known to support her son David when he played, if only on a handful of occasions.

Back in the early 1970s we were lucky enough to host an England Final Trial match. Whilst thousands of supporters flocked to Peel Croft to see the big England names, Rose only came along to see David play the warm-up match for Burton Minis, she promptly left before the England stars graced the field.

When we held our first ever Ladies Day at the Club, Rose was keen to offer to help on the day, as she thought it was long overdue that any wife, girlfriend, mother, sister or aunty could finally have their own day to celebrate at Burton RFC. However, she did question whether Ladies was the correct description for the event!

A woman of great strength and faith she was hugely proud of her family, supporting and standing by her husband Dennis during his council years. Given the opportunity to talk about her girls and always happy to share news about what they were working on.

Rose's funeral will be held on Tuesday 23rd December at 1.15pm at St Joseph's, Mount Street, Winshill, Burton upon Trent, DE15 0JA.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her children, Julie, David, Sally and all her family at this very sad and difficult time.
