Home town club Burton-on-Trent was launch pad for Rose Jay on her way to top level. A former England U20s and England Colleges squad member, Rose began playing when eight at Peel Croft and also appeared for ‘Burfield’, a junior girls cluster team based on Burton and Lichfield.
She went on to Hartpury College, represented English Colleges and became the first female student on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) scheme to be selected to play rugby for her country and also obtained a BTEC National Diploma in Sport Performance and Excellence.

(Whilst Rose doesn't mention the influence of her early coaches - Phil Stockbridge, Paul Tattersall and Kevin Wrathall, they are sure they had a part to play in her ability to play at such a high level!!!!)
