Another great day of rugby played by the under 8's.

Nottingham 40-35 Burton
Burton paid heavily for a poor start, gifting their opponents two early trys meant they were always chasing the game. The attack did, however, start to fire with Ben Blackham, Ben Mumford and Cameron Callow controlling the midfield, the boys delighted spectators with their running and passing. Even though they managed to get themselves back into the game at half time, a slow start to the second half again meant they were still chasing the game. Burton can take heart in the fact that despite their defence was at times frail, they still managed to keep themselves in the game with some excellent ball skills.

Derby 10-30 Burton
After the boys had time to reflect on their last game the young Crofters came out fired up against Derby. Tal Fitzsimmons put in his best performance of the season and Edgar Brown showed good improvement in defence. Burton came out all guns blazing, and Derby just couldn't stop the aggresive defence or the fast paced attack, Derby managed two late, but nothing can be taken away from the boys for a well rounded performence.

Paviors 30-30 Burton
The final league game saw Burton change down a couple of gears, despite that though they still gave Paviors a run for their money. Jack Montgommery regulary breaking the defence and either Thomas Harrison or Charlie Spendlove were in support to keep the move flowing. Yet again though Burtons defence was their undoing, the line was rarely kept and Paviors were allowed to run through Burton with ease. The result, though, did see Burton through to the knockout stage of the plate competition.

Newcastle 5-30 Burton Plate semi-final
The fact that a loss meant the young Crofters would be going home early seemed to take them to the next level. The match started pretty evenly, but some good defensive work from Marcus Tolley and Owen Jones kept Newcastle out. Some ellusive running from James Summers saw Burton launch coutless attacks which eventually wore down the Newcastle defence and saw Burton cruise into the final.

Ilkeston 35-35 Burton Plate final
The final saw the Burton youngsters start slowly, and their opponents were, again, gifted a two try lead. Their normally secure hands became covered in teflon and the defence again looked to be struggling. Burton, though, through lots of encouragment from sidelines did manage to sort their act out, and proceded to claw themselves back into the game. The boys pulled together and gave everything and went into half time 1 try down. The start to the second half again saw a simple mistake by the young Crofters allow Ilkeston go 2 in front. But the boys came good and not only did they pull themselves level, but a turnover in the last seconds saw Burton go desperatly close to snatching a winner.

With the final drawn the rule book was referred, which stated that both teams would be awarded a plate.
