Burton Rugby Club, who are one of the best community rugby clubs in the
Country are pleased to announce our new coaching team for the coming
season. Steve Smith who has worked in the coaching team for four years
and Head Coach for the past two will be taking on a new role of Director
of Rugby.
This has enabled Tom Barlow, who has been backs coach for the past two
years take over the Head Coaches Role and Nick Adams re-join the club as
forwards coach. Tom has a massive amount of experience as a player having played for Sale, Nottingham, Cornish Pirates and Plymouth in the
Professional Game. Nick Adams coached Burton several years ago before
moving into the National Leagues with Stourbridge. Nick has decided to
take over as forwards coach at Burton, to enable him to be closer to home whilst also concentrating on completing his RFU Level 3 Coaching Award.
Nick’s playing experience includes Nottingham and Wasps.
Steve Smith the clubs proposed new Director of Rugby said “Tom taking over as Head Coach will be seamless as we have worked together for the past two seasons and he knows the players well and systems we have in place. He is also keen to bring new ideas into the programme which is great and we are both exceptionally pleased that Nick has decided to re-join the coaching team. Nick has worked with Stourbridge and will have learnt a lot from that experience and I fully expect him and Tom to get the best out of our players. With last years forwards coach Nic Rouse moving on to play at London Irish, Nick will continue to provide the best coaching available to our forwards.” Smith added, “I believe that we have the best coaching team at this level by some distance in the Country and the quality of coaching certainly helps improve our players who play at Burton Rugby Club of all levels and shows in the sheer numbers of players training with 45 attending last night. Our young squad, linked with the players produced from our ever growing academy will continue to develop and I certainly expect us to challenge at the top end of the league again this season.”
Burton have been able to add several new players including the sizable
second row Will Roach who has moved into the area and Harry Titley moving back into the area from his University course in Leeds where he has been plying his trade with Keighly.
The training at Burton Rugby Club has officially started on and runs on
Tuesday's and Thursday's from 7.00pm - 8.45pm at Shobnall Leisure Complex A38 pitches. All senior players are welcome to attend these sessions and we would welcome any new players to come and join in over the summer period.
