Message to all the people I know on Facebook and beyond.
I realise that it’s a bit of a read but please bear with me while I let you know what we are doing
Some of you will know I with Paul Tattersall, Neil Wainman Alan Taylor, Noel McKnight and Keith Endacott-Jones are attempting the challenging Pennine 360 cycle route starting from Burton Rugby club on the morning of Monday 29th August in 6 days.
It is now know as the BOT2BOT cycle challenge from Burton on Trent to Berwick on Tweed.
We are doing this to raise money for the Millwood Injury Centre in Nottingham who have been instrumental in the care and on going recovery of Elliot Endacott-Jones (see below) who was a passenger involved in a major car accident 4 years ago and is still recovering but with the help of this centre he is making great strides in his recovery but it is a still a journey and we want to help Keith and Sharron Endacott-Jones be able to support this unit in the same way it has supported Elliot.

Elliot used to play for Burton RFC mini juniors under the coaching guidance of no less than Heppy, Phil Manning, Phil Stockbridge, Paul Tattersall and yours truly which culminated in the tremendous tour to Canada in 2008 -
He still loves rugby and especially Burton Rugby Club and if you were there on Boxing Day last year you may have seen him watching the match
Elliott can be seen in the picture of the Canada tourists in 2008 and he is the fifth from the right on the back row.
The rugby family will always look after each other so our aim is to do our bit and help those who helped us so if you are able to sponsor us to help us raise and SMASH our target of £2000 that would be great and hugely appreciated
I have pasted here Elliot's story in his words. Thanks for taking time to read this and thanks for any support you are able to give
This is Elliot's story:
“I am Elliot Endacott-Jones I’m 24 years old and I live with my parents in Overseal. Four years ago I had a car accident which caused me to have a brain injury which left me really weak on my left hand side of my body and epilepsy, so I am now in a wheelchair. Previous to my accident I lived with my wife and worked as an apprentice Project Controller for Alstom power company and lived in my own rented property with my two Siberian Husky dogs.
I had to stay in hospital for 8 months but I did not make much physical recovery really as I frequently suffered seizures and infections which affected my recovery. When I look back at the photos it amazes me because I had a craniotomy partial removal of skull to release pressure on the brain), which was replaced with a Titanium skull. I also had a tracheotomy to assist my breathing which has impacted on my speech and swallow and I have a scar on my throat. Within a year of returning home my marriage broke down and I returned to live with my parents Sharron and Keith. They discussed with Derby Brain Injury Unit to have suitable residential rehabilitation which I received funding for from the Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service also known as Millwood Unit.
When I first arrived there I hadn’t been able to do much and had just sat in bed because of fatigue and drank loads of tea. Soon they had me walking around and moving more to improve my core strength and I engaged in lots of social activities which I enjoyed and made lots of friends within the unit. They also helped me to improve my memory skills and speech. I had received therapy from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language, Activities whilst also receiving assistance from the psychology team to help me cope and adapt to my situation. Other activities included hydro therapy, bowling and trips to the seaside and even pub lunches.
After two years there I have improved strength in balance, memory, speech and management of my fatigue so it means it will improve my life and independence. Previous to my admission I didn’t even know I had lost because I wasn’t aware of what had happened.
To say thank you to the unit for all their help my Dad and a few friends from Burton Rugby Club that I played for as a teenager are doing a huge bike ride. The Bike ride is from Burton on Trent to Berwick on Tweed also known as the BOT2BOT cycle challenge. Six riders will cycle on the Pennine Cycle Route which is 350 miles and all funds will go to the Millwood Unit to help others to participate in activities in their recovery and enjoy days out”
