The Central Midlands Football League starts the new season with a bang and the Chairmans Cup Final – our version of the Community Shield! – between the winners of our two Cup competitions, Pinxton and Bakewell Town.
This year we will be staging the weekend at the fabulous Peel Croft, current home of Burton RFC and a venue that staged Football League fixtures as the home ground of Burton Swifts and Burton United at the turn of the 20th Century! It’s a very rare occurrence to stage football at this historic ground, and with the rugby club moving on to pastures new in the very near future, this will be the very last game of football to be played at this ground that first staged football in the 19th Century and has been a rugby venue since Burton United lost their Football League place in 1907.
We are making a day of it, and have two matches. At 12 noon, the CMFL Invitational Cup Final sees a cross-League clash between Netherseal St Peter of the Midland Regional Alliance and the CMFL’s Renishaw Rangers. Both clubs interestingly have their roots as Sunday teams that have stepped into Senior football. We will follow that with the main event and the CMFL Chairmans Cup Final as League Cup holders Pinxton take on Division 1 Cup Winners Bakewell Town. It promises to be an afternoon of great football!
We are making a family day of it, there will be stalls and entertainment for the family so bring the kids, and come and watch some footie! Match tickets give admission to BOTH games and with prices at just £5 for adults and £3 for over 65s it’s an absolute bargain! In addition, Children under 16 are admitted ABSOLUTELY FREE with a paying adult!!
