5. Match Officials


BURTON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT MATCH OFFICIALS
All members agree to abide by the relevant Code of Conduct and understand the consequences if they breach the Code of Conduct. Burton Rugby Football Club Codes of Conduct ensure that:
•The rights, dignity and worth of young people are respected and treated
•The physical and emotional well being of all players must be placed above all other considerations
•The relationship developed between adults and young people with whom they work must be based on mutual trust and respect
•All activities undertaken are appropriate to the age, maturity, experience and ability of players
•Everyone, including coaches, officials, doctors, physiotherapists etc. should ensure the well being, safety and enjoyment of all players
•The positive aspects of the sport e.g. fair play must be promoted
•Behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game or relevant regulations, or the use of prohibited techniques or substances will never be condoned
The Code of Conduct for MATCH OFFICIALS: Match Officials' should:
•Recognise the importance of fun and enjoyment when officiating players
•Provide verbal feedback in a constructive and encouraging manner during games
•Emphasise the spirit of the game
•Appreciate the needs of the players’ before the needs of the sport
•Understand the physical and behavioural development of the players
•Be a positive role model and set an example – as such, all comments should be positive and supportive
•Look to self-improvement
•Recognise that the safety and welfare of the players is paramount
•Explain decisions – all players are still learning, and parents will understand the game better
•Always penalise foul play
•Play advantage wherever possible and let the game flow
•Show empathy for the age and ability of players
•Be consistent and objective
•Be familiar with the Good Spectator’s Code and ensure that verbal abuse from players, coaches or spectators is not tolerated and is dealt with by club officials immediately
•Be aware of, and abide by, the RFU Child Protection Guidance Policies and procedures
•Officiate to the rules laid down in the Rugby Continuum and keep themselves updated on rule changes
•Check that the home club or school has a qualified first aider, ambulance access has not been obstructed and that appropriate equipment is available along with someone trained in its use before starting play
•Before training sessions and matches, check that the studs and other clothing are in accordance with the IRB Laws of the Game
