Slow Start

Melbourne 50-5 Burton
A rampant Melbourne ran riot through a lack luster Burton side in the first encounter, far too many Burton players found it more interesting to watch their opponents steal ball and run though them like a hot knife through butter. The defensive line was far too staggered and it made their opponents to run at them and find gaps with ease. As melboune grew with confidence their style of play looked impressive and Burton faced an impossible task, when Burton did finally manage to sort their defence out and exert some pressure, Jude Richards pounced on loose ball to score a concellation try.
Melbourne 10-70 Burton
In a complete turn around Burton moved up through the gears, and even though Melbourne scored first on the counter, Burtons tackling was far more aggressive and their rucking was done correctly and effectivly. Some good decsions were taken in midfield and the passing was impressive. As Burton pulled away they grew with confidence and all the young Crofters were eager to get their hands on the ball. A high point was seeing relative newcomer, Olly Gibbs, showed some great tackling and running.
Melbourne 15-35 Burton
The final game saw Melbourne feild their strongest team in the first half. Burton kept to the same style of not choosing an elite team, and they proved that decision right, with some good tackling and hard rucking. Melbourne took a 15-0 lead at half time. The second half saw a complete change to both teams and Burton showed their superiorority by winning that half 35-0.

A great days rugby by both teams saw some good running rugby and a glut of trys. Burton should feel proud that they won the weekend over a very well organised team. Two different styles of play, Melbournes running to Burtons up yer jumper rucking give spectaters a pleasent morning. One sour point was an awkard landing, after being tackled, which saw Hecter Abel leave the field with a damaged shoulder.
