Junior Colts continue run of form against Lichfield

Burton started well which isn’t always the case and probed around pulling Lichfield around the pitch left and right.

Tom Bunting was a driving force at scrum half as his run of form continued supplying a steady flow of quick ball to release the backs. His half back partner Andrew Barnett grows with every match and acted as a great pivot for the rest of his young back line.

During the first half it has to be said that Burton failed to capitalise on the advantage of the wind and a failure to move the ball at times provided a half time score 0-0.

Lichfield to their credit came at Burton in the second half and only great defence by Burton in their own 22 kept the score as it was. A lack of vision by both sides at times should be noted as both were guilty of not spotting overlaps well worked.

A great battle up front as both sides tried to wrestle superiority, with Lichfield edging the ruck but Burton working hard to counter ruck. After a pulsating 20 minutes in the second half, passion spilled over for a while, but credit to both sides as they quickly regained concentration on the game.

Over the past few months hard work on the training pitch by the Burton Junior side working with their Senior counterparts paid dividend as they worked a situation to create a chance for Tom Purslow who just failed to ground the ball.

This only fuelled to spur the Burton side on, as a great set of controlled phase rugby, finally created a chance for Alex Cooke to ground the ball for a try with a minute to go. The conversion was missed.

From the resultant kick off Lichfield did again get to put pressure on the Burton line, but hard work by the ever tireless Burton forwards kept the line intact.

Final score was 5-0 ,and credit to both sides who it has to be said served up a great match.

The Junior Colts go into next weeks away match at Leek with a chance to go top of their County League.
