Belper's bigger pack put Burton under early pressure and despite not playing too badly Burton found themselves trailing 21 – 0 after Belper scored three converted tries within 15 minutes. The first was from a tap penalty 5 meters from the Burton line, the other two by a strong centre making 50 meter runs and avoiding the Burton tacklers. Hard work and good runs by Henry Andrew, Robert Ramsell, Matt Prince and others prevented them scoring more. Burton then seemed to wake up and take the game to Belper, after a series of Burton forward drives Tom Hunt snapped up the ball and darted over from 10 meters out. From the restart Michael Cooke had a gutsy run up to half way but took a knock, he went off for a few minutes and for that time was replaced by Alister Weedon who took a quick tap penalty, he ran through the Belper forwards to score Burton's second try. Just before that Burton's backs were working well and Sam Turner had a great break, with support out side him he took on the full back and was tackled making possibly his only mistake of the match. Turner who was filling in at fly half had a great game was involved in more good runs before half time with Hunt and Sam Wardega, but at half time Burton were trailing 10 – 21.
In the second half good runs by Andrew and Jack Champney put Belper under pressure. Ian Evans then made a great tackle, Andrew picked up and set off with the ball and passed to Turner who sped over for a fine try, converted by Chris Brown. By now Burton forwards had the better of Belper forcing Belper to concede penalties, and from one, Wardega forced his way over with several players hanging on to him. That gave Burton the lead. Champney, the Burton captain put in tackle after tackle and made several charges at Belper. Turner made another break and from a penalty Andrew found Ian Evans who capped a fine game to score another try, converted by Turner. Burton kept going to the end and after more fine play by both the backs and forwards, Will Lord ran a penalty and passed to Andrew who scored the final try converted by Brown. Against all the odds Burton had come back from 21 – 0 down to win a very entertaining match 36 – 21 in a great team effort by all the players.
