Burton edged out by small margins in semi final encounter at Lichfield

Was not for the faint hearted as two very well matched teams fought it out for a place in the county final. the early indications were encouraging for Burton as they gained possession of the ball and put several phases of play together. A strong carry by James North set up a ruck in the Burton half. Good work from Connor Wood, Morgan Brown and Cameron Scobie, gave Oliver corbett quick ball. The ball moved to Josh Hart via Josh Wright, Daniel Grimsdell and Matt Evans. Josh Hart made the most of scarce space and burst through the Lichfield line to open the scoring. However, Lichfield responded well and began to get some quality possession and moved Burton backwards. Burton defended a series of penalties in the middle and eventually forced Lichfield to knock on. Lichfield put pressure on the scrum and managed to turn over ball on the 5 metre line. The forward momentum carried the forwards over and the scores were level. The try became a goal as the conversion was kicked. Lichfield capitalised again shortly after as they put pressure on a Burton line-out on the 10 metre line and ran a try in the corner. The half ended Lichfield 12 Burton 10.

Burton started the second half strongly and pressurised the Lichfield defensive line with a series of phases. However, Lichfield stood strong and put in several decisive tackles when needed. Burton huffed and they puffed but could not break through. Then as time was running out a pick up and carry by Charlie Newcombe made good ground. Good support from Harry Grice, Calum Launchbury and Morgan Brown secured the ball and Jamie Dutton was able to feed Josh Hart who burst through the line to narrow the score line. Burton needed another score and pressed the Lichfield line. Lichfield stood strong and held out to win 12-10 at the whistle.
