Burton grasp defeat from the jaws of victory as Syston mounted the late late show.

Burton 20 (10) Syston 21 (7)

Tries: Josh Hart 3, Oliver Corbett

Burton started the game in confident mood and put pressure on the Syston defence with several phases of play in the opposition half. A strong Burton ruck and good work from Josh Wright left a opening for Josh Hart to exploit and take full advantage of with his first try of the game. Five minutes later Burton upset a Syston line-out and moved the ball forward via Connor Wood and Charlie Newcombe. Cameron Scobie set up the ruck that allowed quick ball for Josh Hart to link with Matt Evans, who cleverly switched the move back to Josh Hart who finished in the corner for his and Burtons second try. Syston held out for the remainder of the third with some determined defensive work to trail 10-0 at the whistle.

The second period was a hard fought battle of the forwards as both teams found keeping the ball a difficult task. Syston slowly began to come in too the game and threatened to score on several occasions but were thwarted by tackles from William Hulbert and Sam H in the corners. Unfortunately the Burton defence could not hold out the final phases and Syston scored with a try under the posts in the final minute. The try became a goal and the third ended Burton leading 10-7.

The final third started with Burton dominant and expanding their lead with a Josh Hart try following good work in the maul from Charlie Newcombe and Jack Wardle. Two minutes later good clearing work by Jamie Dutton's boot and a determined chase by Matt Evans set up a Burton ruck 10 metres out. Oliver Corbett got the ball and sold the entire defensive line a dummy pass and footwork that would grace Wigan Casino to score a excellent try. Burton led 20-7 and were seemingly cruising the final stages of the game. However, its not over until the clinically obese female (very pc) sings! Syston ran in a try under the posts and converted to close the gap. Burton then failed to keep the ball and Syston had several phases of play in the Burton half. Eventually Burton were penalised on the 10 metre line and switched off as Syston took a quick penalty and scored under the posts. The try became a goal and somehow Burton were trailing 20-21. Despite good possession in the Syston half Burton were unable to score and the whistle blew 20- 21 Syston.
