The U13’s were welcomed with perfect conditions for a great game of rugby. As the players warmed up, there was a sense in the air that today was going to be another huge step forward in our progression as a team.
The first quarter started with both teams evenly matched showing strong commitment and determination throughout which set the tempo for whole game.
Skills learnt from our mid week training sessions came to the fore with excellent scrummaging, support play and tackling particularly from Alfie, Sam and Dylan. James D found his running legs again, with speed in both attack and defense. Overall Burton ran in 10 tries to Walsall’s 8.
However, the scores do not tell the whole story. Today was the day the U13’s once again stood proud, got stuck in, played for each other as a TEAM and finally got their just rewards. This was evident at full time seeing the boys walk off the pitch with pride, joy and beaming faces with Fred winning the biggest smile of the day in his first ever match!
Thank you to George N for trying out the first aid skills of the coaches for a second week running, the excellent unbiased referee (one of our own) and more importantly a massive thanks to the travelling parents who came in their numbers to support the lads.
