We, the Coaches were very happy with the 100% effort put in by all players, in such a tight & tough game against such powerful opposition, small mistakes and some small breaks in discipline cost us dear yesterday at Stafford.
At half time it was a narrow 0-3 margin after a penalty was given for a powerful tackle from Danny Causer.
Both teams defended to the hilt and pressure swung both ways as one minute Stoke would be on the attack and then it would be our turn. A well worked backs move by Stoke, led to a powerful run from the winger who should have been stopped but a mistimed tackle let him score a try which was like a punch in the chest. Score 0-8.
We restarted strong & Stoke never looked the better team, however we didn’t make the most of the few chances we had, despite some good attacking play we just couldn’t get it over the line, and another good break by Stoke saw them score and convert. Score 0-15.
The Crofters dug deep and battled to the end, producing some excellent scrummaging against a much bigger pack but this wasn’t to be our day and the final whistle blew with Stoke U13’s as County Champions.
Despite the loss the spirits were high and the whole squad can draw on the fact that they have had a really good season and to be County Final qualifiers is an achievement in itself.
Stoke take home the silverware, but beware Potters we will be back next year to give you a run for your money at U14’s.
Well done to the Stokey’s a quality opposition and a well done to all the players parents & supporters of Burton RFC U13’s.
