Burton Squad show their strength

BURTON 17 V 0 LEICESTER FOREST

On a sunny Sunday morning, we welcomed our opposition Leicester forest. This was to be a development fixture giving all our squad ample game time. This not only turned out to be the case but also showed our strength and depth, we played 3 twenty minutes halves giving new players their first taste of Burton rugby and regular players a chance to try new positions.

The first half saw Burton start strongly against a much larger side, Burton Forwards showed their grit and good technique at the breakdown and proceeded to get on top of a strong Leicester Forest side. Our new player Jeri Oldfield making his first start for the black and whites equipped himself very well showing excellent strength and agression in the tackle and fitness around the pitch. The half continued on with Burton controlling the tackle area and after many phases of play and excellent continuity a great team try was finished off by Daniel Heale who went over in the corner for his first try of the season. Leicester Forest were then kept at bay by some great tackling for the remainder of the half which finished 5-0 .

Leicester Forest started the second half strongly and proceeded to attack ,Burton having made five changes at the break took time to get into their stride but soon it was back down to business and Burton took the upper hand once more. After some excellent running with ball in hand, space was created on the left for Joe Cuthbertson to race down his wing for the only try of the second half. Score finishing 5-0.

The third half started and Leicester Forest once again came at us strongly, every ruck and scrum was fiercely contested. Both teams were evenly matched and the game could have swung either way. Burton however rose to the challenge and produced some excellent play. The continuity and comitment from each and every player worked the ball out to the left wing where Oli Mears received the ball and made an excellent run breaking tackles and outpacing defenders to score. Danny Causer then stepped up to slot the conversion to make the final score over the three halves- 17-0.

All the burton squad got lots of game time and many produced some excellent work,

Well done to all.
