Mighty U13's Crofters secure their second convincing win of the new season!

Twenty two players turned up this morning ‘boots blacked’ in readiness for our first Sunday game this season. Meeting & changing at Peel Croft we greeted our opposition from Nuneaton RFC a team we haven’t played since our ‘tag days’.
Nuneaton ‘the Nuns’ turned up with an excellent club reputation and certainly weren’t short of big players both in forwards & leggy backs, a team that according to my sources are well respected within our age group and North Warwickshire in particular.

We warmed up, looking good and everyone in the zone. With 25 minutes each way on a full size pitch for only the second time in their MJ careers, this was going to be a game of fitness & stamina.
The Nuns kicked off and started with a good challenge showing pace and setting the scene for a physical game. The Crofters fought back and soon took the upper hand with a quality attack initiated by some excellent counter rucking.
The Burton boys pre-season training paying off with excellent work by all players. Strong Scrum work against a bigger pack, tenacious rucking and superior organistion at & around the breakdown again secured quality ball for the Backs to practice their passing game. This they did too much effect and yard after yard was gained despite good defensive play from the opposition our backlines beautiful ball handling and differing lines of attack breached the Nuns and tries were scored by Joe Eppicheff, Callum Brodrick, Joe ‘under the posts’ Cuthbertson & the day was not going to finish without Levi pulling one out of his back pocket with his trademark strong running.

Although the Backs had all the points today the Forwards are to be congratulated on their hard graft which initiated most of the attacks.

Nuneaton RFC were worthy opponents and battled hard to the end, they deserve our respect for the effort they also committed in a tough game, we were better prepared on this day and fitter around the field. We wish them well for the rest of the season and look forward to another game against them in the near future.
On a final note, a big well done to both Callum Shaw & Jake Morris who have both started this season and both been selected to play in our first XV squad, both producing good solid performances in a strong Burton pack.
